In Mixed Martial Arts there are five elements that a fighter or a student needs to work on – striking, sprawling, takedowns, floor work and submission holds. These are all key ingredients for total win in a competition. A student on training should understand the basic concepts of MMA and do a lot of practice and exercise routines to master each element. Ground work requires not just brute strength. In MMA, if you’re strong but do not have the capacity to last until the last round, a fighter is most likely to lose. Students who are training for Mixed Martial Arts are sometimes faced with a number of options when it comes to choosing mma gloves. Technology and breakthroughs in fight science now enable fighters with extensive choices in protecting their hands and wrists as compared to when MMA was born more than 15 years ago. Since striking in different angles are required in MMA training, different sets of gloves are used. Sparring gloves are used for training sessions involving stand up work and ground work. These gloves have extra padding in the striking area for added protection to the fighter. Bag gloves are designed to protect your hands when hitting heavy items like striking pads and punching bags. They are shaped differently than sparring gloves which make them unfit for sparring purposes because they may cause injury to the training partner. Fight gloves have specific weights as prescribed by a fight commission. They are lighter because of minimal padding.

Owning a quality pair of mma gloves is an important component of your training and they are vital in making sure that you will have a positive experience when practicing your striking skills. Hand injuries are commonplace especially when proper use of gloves is not enforced. In order to prevent accidents and injuries, it is essential that each student purchase his own pair of gloves. If your pair of gloves is of bad quality, they just won’t last the extreme demands of training and you’ll end up buying another one. Invest in a top quality brand like Hayabusa or Fairtex and you’re sure of its durability and protection they provide. Dimensions and weights of gloves vary depending on where you will use them. Note, however, that you won’t be using just one pair of gloves in the course of your training. Different striking moves require different types of gloves. Be sure to ask your instructor which ones are recommended.
