DreamFighters Exclusive

DreamFighters.com was able to meet up with Stephen Quadros to ask him just 5 questions. Thanks Stephen!

DreamFighters.com:  Hi Stephen, how have you been? What have you been up to these days?

Stephen Quadros: I’ve been good, thanks. Just relaxing. With ProElite having a few problems
it’s given me a chance to relax and assess where I want to go next. I have
been very happy working with Showtime Networks, who broadcast the EliteXC
and ShoXC mixed martial arts brands, and hope to do more of that in the
future.

The time off has recharged me and caused me to be more focused, so it’s
been good actually. I have been very busy over the last decade
commentating for Showtime, Cage Rage in England, the IFL (International
Fight League) and Pride. All the travel is fun but it can be taxing too.
But…I am now ready for more (laughs).

I’m also planning on hosting my own TV show. And don’t be surprised if I
show up guest starring on a couple of TV shows along the way. There are
other things, but I’ll just leave it at those…

DreamFighters.com: Did you catch Fields Dynamite? What did you think of it?

Stephen Quadros: I did see a few matches. The production value was very high and I thought
the matches were extremely exciting. It made me flashback on all the fond
memories I have of being in Japan and working shows which left a strong
legacy. I really hope to return to Japan at some point and take up where I
left off… From what I saw the New Years Eve event was impressive, but
I’m not surprised because the staff at the old Dream Stage production
office, as well as at K-1, are very sharp and always stay on the cutting
edge when it comes to presentations.

DreamFighters.com: After watching Mirko beat HMC, do you think is has a few fights left or?

Stephen Quadros: I have always believed in Mirko as a fighter. But he’s a man and has had
many life distractions. He has been competing at a high level in K-1 and
MMA for a very long time and fought the best in both sports, so it
shouldn’t come as a surprise that he’s had to deal with a number of
injuries. The win over Hong Man Choi, who defeated K-1 World Grand Prix
champion Semmy Schilt in a kickboxing match, is a good first step back for
him and I look forward to his further resurgence.

DreamFighters.com: What are your impressions of the WAMMA belt, which is now included in DREAM? Any thoughts on it?

Stephen Quadros: I think that the men behind WAMMA have a good idea. DREAM just makes them that much better now. These things take
time. I feel that having Fedor Emelianenko, who to me is the greatest
fighter in the sport, as their heavyweight champion really helps WAMMA.

DreamFighters.com: GSP vs Penn - Who takes it?

Stephen Quadros: I don’t know! I have to really think about that one. You would have to
give Georges St. Pierre a certain amount of an athletic edge. On the other
side of the coin BJ Penn has one of the strongest minds I have ever seen
in the game. Theoretically size matters…except when BJ Penn is fighting.
I feel Penn is the better striker of the two, where Georges is the more
explosive wrestler. Their grappling is close but I think BJ possesses the
meaner MMA jiu-jitsu.

One thing that GSP has though is the ability to rise higher and higher to
each challenge he faces. He DOES improve. This is an immeasurable
intangible that on paper matches BJ’s intangibles. I would have said that
Penn would be stronger in the standup dog fight, but Georges showed in his
very tenacious throwdown with Jon Fitch that he has really improved in his
pocket game. But standing and slugging is not what Georges wants to do
against BJ.

I’ll eventually make up my mind and pick one or the other. I’m always
reluctant to choice who I feel will be victorious in a contest like this
which is so fiercely competitive, but I will. Right or “wrong” I always
make a stand. One thing I will say, this is one of the greatest matches in
the history of the sport and for sure it is THE top match that the game
has seen in a years, bar none.

Stephen Quadros: Thanks for interviewing me Adam!
