DreamFighters Exclusive with Bas Rutten
March 12, 2009 by admin
DreamFighters.com: What have you been up to lately besides your busy job with insideMMA?
Bas Rutten: Shooting little short movies with a company from Kevin James right now as we speak, really funny, so its great. An infomercial is coming out with a punching and kicking product that I designed, its called B.A.S (the Body Action System), it will hit the TV in about two weeks now and for the rest I am running around, I did a video clip for MTV for the Band “New found Glory” and that thing came out yesterday I believe, so am doing good!
DreamFighters.com: Are you still training and do you expect any return to the cage or ring?
Bas Rutten: No, I have no cartlidge anymore on my knee caps, nothing at all. They can fix ANYTHING in a knee, but NOT the knee caps. So I can only train stand up, sitting on my knees hurts. I have to wait until they get better with the stem cell research.
DreamFighters.com: Bas, you did a great job with coverage at the Affliction “Day Of Reckoning” Event. How did you feel Affliction’s show went?
Bas Rutten: I thought it was a good event, anything with Fedor in it is good.
DreamFighters.com: What was your impression of the Fedor vs Arlovski fight, and what did you think of the K.O.?
Bas Rutten: I think that Arlovski was doing a great job until he got “cocky” and forgot about his game plan and when you give Fedor ONE little mistake, he WILL take it, he’s just so freaking calm and has such a good reflexes, its awesome to see a guy like that.
DreamFighters.com: Who do you think should be next to take on Fedor for the WAMMA title?
Bas Rutten: Josh Barnett or Cheik Kongo
DreamFighters.com: What are your thoughts of the WAMMA belt and WAMMA system? We are good friends with WAMMA. Pat Miletich and Mike say Hi.
Bas Rutten: I think it’s a great system, its only going to be difficult when the biggest organization in the world, the UFC, doesn’t work with them. Because then you STILL don’t have a unified world champion. Now, if they keep on going and the rest of the world also gets bigger in MMA, then of course the UFC will have to challenge the WAMMA belt holders because the people want to know, and when the people want to know, Dana White knows that there is money to be made and he’s a good business man. But that’s still going to take while.
DreamFighters.com: Bas, what are your thoughts on Brock Lesnar? Do you think he is the real deal? Also, do you think Fedor can take him out, as they(UFC and Red Devil) have been trying to set this match up?
Bas Rutten: Brock is a very strong guy and every time we see him he’s better, so he’s learning and learning fast. Can he beat Fedor? Not right now, but maybe in the future? Of course he has a chance to beat Fedor and not only a 10% chance, substantially higher, trust me, but Fedor is just too good right now and look at his record, he NEVER lost. (TK doesn’t count, it was a cut and be beat him in a re-match)
DreamFighters.com: You are good friends with Mirko Filipovic. Do you think Mirko still holds a threat in the heavy weight division?
Bas Rutten: I haven’t talked to Mirko for a long time, we would only see each other at events and would call each other once a while, so we are friends but not close friends. I think he should drop to light heavy, he can be huge there.
DreamFighters.com: In your early Pride Days you seemed to of Interviewed and hung out with Mirko a lot. Can you tell us(the fans) of any funny or memorable moments with Mirko? What was he like out side the ring?
Bas Rutten: He was always funny with me and he wanted only to be interviewed by me. I set up Mauro Ranallo, who’s terrified of Mirko, Mirko was great with this, check this out and you get a kick out of it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s4oJsSnmGkw
DreamFighters.com: Also, were there any memorable moments with Wanderlei Silva?, as he always had a colorful personality.
Bas Rutten: Nope, we are just friendly but I never hang out with him
DreamFighters.com: Bas, you have appeared on a few episodes of “The King Of Queens”. What was it like filming on that show with Kevin James?
Bas Rutten: Kevin is great, really good guy. I met him when I first came in the States, he was unknown then and lived on a one bedroom apartment that he shared, haha, you should see his house now! But he stayed the same exact person. Like I said, I am working with him right now again, he’s not behind the camera, but he’s the producer, writer and also director together with the director of KOQ and Mallcop, great guys!
DreamFighters.com: Who was the most interesting person you ever interviewed and why?
Bas Rutten: My mom and dad for a show that I am doing, it was strange to hear how they thought about me, haha
DreamFighters.com: Bas our readers have a question for you. You are in the bar, talking to some ladies, and someone decides to start some trouble with “El Guapo”. What do you do?
Bas Rutten: Take him out in ways that depend on his aggressiveness. If they hit one of the ladies, they will end up in the hospital 100%, if they are just drunk, I choke them out and let the bouncers take him outside, no need to refurnish a drunk man’s face, he’s drunk for crying out loud, doesn’t know what he’s doing. If they hit me, well, it has to be a sucker punch because once we square of I don’t get hit that often on the street, but with a sucker punch, I probably take him out with low kicks. On the street people don’t know how to fight so you can experiment, low kicks are great because you probably have to give only one (step in deep so you connect with the shinbone, they won’t flex their muscles so it will go through them like a knife through butter) and he will drop. The good thing about them is that the guy will remember you every time he sits down, because it will hurt bad for at least 5 days.
Bas Rutten: Check out BasRutten.com and as El Guapo always says: Godspeed……… and Party on!
